...New AVIATION...
.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 148 PM CDT Mon Jun 9 2025
A cold front was slowly sliding across the state on this Monday
afternoon. N of the front, skies were mostly clear and dew point
temps had fallen into the lower 50s to lower 60s, meanwhile S of the
front, dew point temps were holding in the upper 60s to lower 70s
under partly to mostly cloud skies. Early afternoon temperatures
were mostly in the 80s with a few locations approaching 90
degrees. Redevelopment of scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms are possible near and S of the frontal boundary
through early evening time frame today. Activity should be pretty
scattered with locally heavy downpours possible.
Synoptically, the pattern was transitioning to NWrly flow as an
upper trough pivots across the Mid/Upper MS Valley. At the surface,
high pressure was building into the plains downstream of an upper
ridge axis situated W of the Rockies. The aforementioned surface
high will bring nice conditions to AR On Tuesday and Wednesday.
Winds will be Nrly on Tuesday, becoming S/SErly on Wednesday as the
surface high translates Ewrd just a bit. Further W, a compact closed
upper low is expected to develop on Wednesday over OK. This feature
will move towards the state Wednesday night into Thursday increasing
PoP chances across the area.
Temperatures this afternoon, Tuesday, and Wednesday should range
from the lower 80s to lower 90s. Low temperatures should range from
the upper 50s (N of the front) to upper 60s elsewhere.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday Night through next Monday)
Issued at 148 PM CDT Mon Jun 9 2025
The brief dry period expected across the state during the early to
middle part of the week will come to an end by Thu/Fri. At the mid-
levels, ridging is expected to intensify across the SW US as well as
the SE US. Between these two features will be a slow moving, nearly
stationary trough/low that will slowly work its way from west to
east across the Southern Plains toward the Lower MS River Valley
from Thursday through the end of the period. During much of this
time, Arkansas will be on the east side of this feature and will be
in a favorable position for frequent showers and thunderstorms. H500
and sfc flow will be out of the SSW which will usher in very moist
air as well.
The daily peak in precip coverage is expected to correlate with
daytime heating, but some mesoscale features could favor more
prolonged activity into the overnight hours as well. Overall storm
organization looks messy and there isn`t much of a clear signal for
widespread strong to severe thunderstorm development.
Abundant moisture will be in place, noted by PW values in the 1.50-
2.00 inch range across the region. This could provide the potential
for locally heavy downpours as well as some locally heavy pockets of
rainfall accumulation. It remains difficult to pinpoint a specific
area for the greatest heavy rainfall threat at this time.
Temperatures through the period are expected to remain near to above
normal for early/mid June with highs in the mid 80s to lower 90s F
and lows in the mid 60s to mid 70s. Heat indices are expected to
remain below advisory criteria, but HeatRisk will likely climb into
the 2-Moderate level across more parts of the state near the end of
the period.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 622 PM CDT Mon Jun 9 2025
Scattered SHRA/TSRA should linger near KPBF and KLLQ into the early
evening hours before dissipating. Conds may deteriorate near
convection to MVFR, then improve once precip moves on. Otherwise,
VFR conds are anticipated to prevail through the TAF period. Could
be some AM patchy FG near PBF thanks to decent rainfall this
afternoon coupled with near calm winds overnight. High clouds are
expected to return on Tues afternoon from the SW but bring no
operational impacts to aviation.
